Locker assignments will be added to student schedules as we get closer to our first day of school.

Student Schedule Changes

Student Handbook Policy

Southold Junior-Senior High School offers its students a comprehensive and varied curriculum in preparation for college, technical school, and other types of post-high school education, the armed forces, or a career in business.

A great deal of time, care, and effort is devoted to assuring that each student is placed into an educational program that will best meet his or her individual needs. Input is sought from students, parents, teachers, and counselors.

The scheduling process is a lengthy one, extending from mid-February through early September. It is the goal of the staff, through this process, to ensure a smooth opening of the new school year, one marked by a minimum of disruptions due to schedule changes. To attain this goal, the following guidelines have been established:

From February through mid-April, each student will meet with his/her guidance counselor to select a course of study for the upcoming school year. (New York State graduation requirements, along with a comprehensive listing of the courses offered by each department in Southold High School, are detailed in the Program of Study Guide developed by the administration.)
A listing of the courses selected will be given to each student. Any discrepancies in the schedule should be corrected by the student before the end of the school year.
Student schedules will be posted on the Parent Portal in late August.
In late August, students may make appointments to meet individually with their counselors to make any schedule changes necessitated by: (a) graduation requirements; or (b) sequence requirements.
Once school begins, schedule change appointments will NOT be made during academic class time. Students may make appointments before or after school or during lunch or study hall period. Students must report to their originally scheduled classes until a change is formally approved.
Schedule changes will take place only during the first week of each new semester. *Special exceptions may occur as determined by the building principal and guidance counselor.
- Students may drop a course only with teacher recommendation, signed parental approval, and signed guidance approval. Study halls will not be considered adequate replacement for a discontinued course. The student will be expected to replace said course with an elective wherever possible. Any full year course that is dropped after completion of the first semester shall appear on the transcript as "DROPPED".
Students enrolled in an AP course of study will not be allowed to drop an AP course after the date stated on the AP contract for that year.
