Cadets from Southold, Mattituck and Greenport NJROTC Unit were treated to a rare opportunity yesterday. Former Cadet and 2016 graduate of Mattituck High School, Lieutenant Greg Sheryll, US Navy, flew an F-18 from Lemoore, CA to Islip, NY and afforded the cadets the opportunity to see the fighter jet up close and get a great tour and Q and A session.
  
Lieutenant Sheryll and his Squadron, VFA-151, returned from deployment in the Red Sea on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in December. Most notably while deployed, Lieutenant Sheryll was credited with the combat downing of an enemy Houti drone which is depicted on the side of his F-18.
